Meet Your Therapist

My name is Renea Slaughter, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and owner of Renew Your Mind LLC. I believe in meeting you where you are, walking with you along your path, and helping you learn to navigate experiences to live a life you desire. I care, create time and space for you, and help you explore those scary, sad, uncomfortable things so you’re not alone in your process. Healing is hard. You can try it alone or with me.

It all started as a kid; everyone came to me in order to “talk it out.” As I grew older, the way people think, the what, why, and how, began to fascinate me. Schooling was the next step, so I found myself studying at the University of South Carolina, Aiken, as a Sociology major, minoring in Psychology and Anthropology. After earning my Bachelor’s degree, I felt what I knew didn’t quite cut it, so I continued my education at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, obtaining a Master’s in Social Work and later received my clinical license to practice.

Having worked both in a state psychiatric facility and private practice settings for over ten years, I have had the opportunity to assist individuals of all backgrounds suffering from a wide range of difficulties. Whether it is a severe persistent mental illness or an everyday life stressor, I’ve learned that there is always a way to heal, grow, and overcome.

My Approach

Judgment Free

Therapy is a place to deconstruct, explore, and gain insight into areas of life to grow. We’ve all done or experienced something we may regret or not quite understand. There is no room for judgment, only grace, understanding, and openness.

Evidenced Based

While treatment is tailored to you, it’s not being pulled out of a hat as we go. Each therapeutic modality, approach, or intervention is implemented strategically to assist in your treatment progression. Whether it’s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), etc., each has been proven effective when implemented appropriately.

Real

I’m an everyday person who understands I don’t know everything, admits when I’m wrong, and learns what is needed to grow. I know people, emotions, mindsets, healing, and growth. p

At your pace

I can’t make you do anything and will never try to. A part of therapy is helping you reach your goal in a way that works best for you. I will help you deconstruct thoughts, emotions, and behaviors about circumstances. I will also provide safe, beneficial, and effective tools to help you make forward progress.

“Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. YOu walk in the rain, you feel the rain, but you are not the rain”
